Truly a Different World !
On the site where our ancestors once had a cultural center, Lao Pako, some 2,000 years ago, Ban Lao Pako nestles unobtrusively,
on a bend, overlooking the
Nam Ngum River.
Our Eco-lodge is built from local materials, using farmed wood, utilizing local traditional techniques, as well as No Hot Water (OK, it is around 24-26C), No TV, No Radio, No Electricity, besides (sometimes...) a few hours in the evening, Solar-Powered (~End January - early February 2012, we will have Electricity 24/7, and HOT WATER !!!).
Being the first Eco-lodge in Laos, the lodge opened in 1993.
Now, in 2010, it is changing hands to a Swede and his Thai Wife. The couple was the first to open an accredited professional Thai Cooking School on the Beaches of Bang Saen, Thailand, in 1997. It is their ambition to open a Lao Professional Cooking School on the Ban Lao Pako premises, as well as a PermaCulture School, teaching and recreating the original Jungle Forest.
